Davao Oriental Food Appreciation #MatiFoodTourism #SambuokanFestival #MakeItMati #MaganahayNgadi

When travelling, food and drinks goes together. It's like connecting two worlds, travelling for a taste of place to understand the place itself and the people surrounds it.

Davao & Socsargen Bloggers, Social Media & Content Creators were privileged to be invited by Mati LGU for a 3-day pre-celebration of Sambuokan Festival & be part of the "Dagway sa Sambuokan" Jojie Alcantara Photography Workshop held in Mati City.

Aside from learning the art of photography, we were lucky to tour all the beautiful sceneries and visit Mati's best food spot, just perfect for the food enthusiasts like me!

A restaurant located fronting Mati City Baywalk Park, that offers a great dining experience both Filipinos home-made recipes plus added meal from foreign cuisines.

Enjoy the sumptuous meal from Ciangi, starting with the Bulalo, Kinilaw, Sizzling Sisig, etc.

THE LOKAL

A warm neighbourhood cafe located at Rizal Extension,  Mati City. The food & coffee is really delicious. It has a relaxing atmosphere that you will really love to stay.

This is a good lokal coffee house that caters lunch, happy hour and dinner. And also they accept reservation for a buffet serving.

I also tried their cappuccino coffee. It has a good presentation, but taste ordinary, something is lacking with the flavour and it resembled same taste of coffee I've tried in other coffee shops I've visited.

For the food, so thankful that they served soup that night because we really need it so badly, after we all get drenched from the rain. 😁

MARTON'S RESTAURANT & CATERING SERVICES

We haven't visited the restaurant, but they're the one who caters us during our dinner at Kanakbai.

This restaurant serves a diverse array of Filipino-Chinese cuisines.
Marton's provides a delicious menu with beautifully prepared buffet dishes.

It was a pleasure of eating at this sophisticated, yet very delightful  in an open space Kanakbai Beach Resort facing the shoreline — indeed it was a bonus for us!

DAHICAN SURF RESORT (DSR)

A great place for families or “barkadas" to bond, especially  those who loves to unwind near the beach.

Not only that, if you want food satisfaction visit DSR and try their "super lami" (very delicious) food, but make sure to come early so that food will be served right exactly the time you're hungry. 😉😊😋

KUZINA VIRGINIA

Craving for an authentic Mati and/or Davao Oriental cuisine? No problem, because Ms. Angie David owner of Kuzina Virginia will answer your cravings.

It was my first time to eat authentic Mandayan cuisines,  and I super love the 'puso ng saging' with coconut milk they called it IGATA NA PURO and the 'bopis' which they called PARU-PARO DE BAGA.

IGATA NA PURO

PARU-PARO DE BAGA

We also try the Mandaya famous rice cooked in a medium fire inside a bamboo tube for four hours, they called it LUT.

It comes in different variants:

  • LUT MATI =RICE+PORK+SHRIMP

  • LUT DAVOR =RICE +NATIVE CHICKEN+ SHRIMP

  • LUT DAHICAN =RICE+SQUID+CRAB+SHRIMP

I was also impressed like the way they cooked the shrimp, the taste is so delicious.

Binalot na Banami
(shrimp wrapped in a banana leaf)

A must try dessert in Kuzina Virginia, the Pudding sa Butong or Pudding de Mati. It looks like Leche Flan, but taste different. 😋😋😋

SALA SURF CAFE

Sā-la means a living room, where you can stay just like staying in your house living room.

You can play with their cards & boards while having a snack in their cafe. And if you want a cosy & quiet place to study or do your work – WiFi connection is FREE! 😊😉

We tried their Tuna Baguette with chips and Rock N' Road frappee.

Thanks so much Boom Balili (Sala Cafe Manager) for the warm accommodation.

KAPE KEYKS

A typical coffee shop fronting the Mati Baywalk Park beside Ciangi's Restaurant.

What I like about this cafe is that it has a good ambiance, especially their Al Fresco area, located in the second floor.

We've been here on our first day in Mati, but because we haven't tried the famous cakes made my Honourable Mati City Mayor Michelle Nakpil-Rabat and the Mati brewed native coffee, we need to taste it before going back to Davao City!  😁😊😉

Carrot Cake

Moist Chocolate Cake & Mati's Native Coffee

Between Moist Chocolate Cake and Carrot Cake, I prefer the latter.

I like the carrot cake because it's  chewy and yummy, perfect match with a native coffee.

SEASIDE

Never missed to visit this famous landmark in Mati, the SEASIDE.

Started in a humble place right beside the seashore (which is now the Mati Baywalk Park), now their place is located at Quezon St., just a few meters away from the old location.

In Seaside, don't forget to buy pasalubong from their well-known heirloom recipes, LUMPIA & EMPANADA.

By the way, aside from fried lumpia and empanada, they also have burger, taco, and fresh lumpia.

Sir Clint Luna
Son-in-law of Ms. GINA ABAYON (owner of Seaside)

Thanks so much Abayon Family for the accommodation, allowing us to taste all of your recipes. 😘😊😉

Make this your food iterinary for this coming Oct. 23 to Nov. 1 #SambuokanFestivalsaMati2019
